Nukus & The Savitsky Collection

Nukus Town Square

Nukus Town Square

Nukus is the capital in the semi-autonomous republic of Karakalpakstan, with a mixture of Karakalpaks, Uzbeks and Kazakhs people living together with smaller groups of Russians, Turkmen, Tartars and others.

Click here to see more on the Savitsky Collection We had initially arranged our stay in Nukus with the director of the museum and we where very fortunate to meet her. We joined a tour she was giving and when I left said a warm good by. The collection is extraordinary and certainly worth the effort and long drive through the desert.

Tomorrow morning we depart by Uzbekistan Airways back to Tashkent and then up into the the mountains north of the capital.
