The Road to Khiva

Road to Khiva

My case of food poisoning has passed, but I missed two dinners in lovely Bukhara and about day and a half of touring. The sites I missed will need to be noted by others or you will need to wait to our next trip to Uzbekistan.

We have learned that they are building a new high-speed rail between Bukhara and Khiva and in the interim there is no train service. So, we arranged for a drive by ‘mini-van’ which took 7 and a half hours including a couple of short stops. The country side is irrigated for the first 50 kilometers or so and then it’s desert for hours and hours. We needed to push Archie into the front seat of the van since we were a little concerned that the driver – in the heat and monotony of the countryside might fall asleep.

We arrive in Khiva safe and sound, but a little bone weary from the tough roads and long hot drive.
